That Feeling
Paul Klemperer (c) 2021
You know that feeling when you’ve just fallen in love? Maybe it’s just a crush or maybe it’s something that will last forever, you just don’t know. But it’s as if some invisible doctor had injected you with a mixture of B vitamins and electricity.
All your senses have been electrified, amplified. And that which you desire… it’s right before you, close enough to touch, to smell. You know that feeling when you’re in love with someone, but that someone isn’t in love with you? Maybe she thinks of you as just a friend, or maybe you hardly register at all in her mind. Do you know that feeling of unrequited love, unattainable love, a constant desire that turns from excitement into misery and back again? And each time she looks at you the possibility of joy makes you disregard your knowledge of the misery that inevitably comes when she looks away again, and nothing has changed? Well if you know that, then imagine not one woman but all women millions, billions of women and you were in love with all of them, and you’re in love with the idea of life, if only you could be with them. And imagine that misery that you feel from the unrequited love and imagine it will be with you every day all day long wherever you are, because there are women everywhere, and the idea of woman is everywhere, the feeling of woman is in every soft breeze every cool drink, every ray of sunshine. If you can imagine that then maybe, maybe you’re ready to play some music.
